About me & MYmassage
I work Monday through Friday in a beautiful, serene studio, a separate building in the back of my home. I do only two (2) massages a day, because I put a great deal of myself into each one. I can start as early as 10a.m., if the appointment is set up in advance. I do not begin any appointments later than 7p.m. Because I only do two appointments a day, and I have about a 90% return clientele (I am really quite good at what I do!), I tend to get booked in advance. I have performed healing with my hands pretty much my entire life. When I completed my doctorate (my dissertation applied the physics of Chaos Theory to Language and Literature; I work in critical theory and the power of language to shape the physical world), I chose to write, research and teach on my own rather than in academia. I trained with the Cypress Health Institute in Santa Cruz to develop my natural healing gifts, as well as to learn proper techniques to protect my own body while healing others. I graduated with a certificate in Massage Therapy and Polarity in 1996 and I have been working as a professional massage therapist since that time. I continue to study and add to my repertoire of techniques, to learn more from each of my clients as well as my own mentors, including Val Guin, a well-known and extraordinary body-worker who teaches classes and workshops on her own as well as in affiliation with IPSB, and has just released a fabulous DVD about massage techniques. My work is a combination of many modalities, from circulatory to deep tissue to energy work and polarity, and incorporates my knowledge and expertise in not only body work, but in psychology and communication, sports injury and physiology, chakras, self-healing and nutrition, breathing techniques, pressure points, visualization and reflexology. I use my clients energy and focus to go deeper into their bodies to offer an exquisitely sensuous experience as well as a deeply therapeutic massage. As an athlete myself, I have endured a number of injuries, including double full hip replacement surgery in 2004, which has given me not only a good sense of empathy with the problems of my clients, but a deep and enduring recognition of and faith in the power of the human body to heal and thrive. My clients tell me there is no one who does the kind of work that I do, which is what keeps them coming back to me week after week, after month after year. I have men and women of all ages who visit as often as they are able, many of whom live as far away as New York and Florida who call as soon as they know their schedule in Los Angeles. I look forward to the opportunity of working with clients who choose to explore their own power in healing through establishing a strong connection with, awareness and appreciation of their physical and spiritual selves, who will allow me the privilege of facilitating and expanding their vitality and well-being.
